Ladders & Water Towers
Ladders, which were carried on a fire truck (commonly confused with the fire engine which carries hoses) also developed to achieve the precision and ease necessary to adequately fight a fire. Firefighters used ground ladders primarily inside buildings to temporarily replace broken stairways, access adjacent rooftops, or even reinforcing perilous features of a burning building. Aerial ladders, on the other hand, were attached to fire trucks and allowed for easy access to the top floors of a building, as well as an effective way to remove victims from a fire.
